MDM Policy & Practice
Medical Decision Making Policy & Practice is an “Gold” Open Access journal. All published articles are freely available online under a Creative Commons license. Authors of accepted manuscripts pay an article processing fee to support open access publication. MDM P&P does not publish in print. The article processing fee for MDM P&P is $2500, with a discounted rate of $2000 for articles where any author is a member of the Society for Medical Decision Making at the time of acceptance. For the first 24 months of MDM P&P’s publication, the member and non-member rates will be further discounted to $1340 and $1675, respectively. Article processing charges will be waived for articles where all authors are residents of a country listed on the World Bank List of Low – Upper Middle Income Countries.

MDM’s Open Access option
Medical Decision Making offers authors of primary research articles the option to make their articles freely available to all upon publication on SAGE’s website. This publishing option, called SAGE Choice, also permits authors to submit the final published manuscript to their funding agency’s preferred archive, if applicable. Authors of accepted manuscripts who wish to use Sage Choice pay an article processing fee to support open access publication. The SAGE Choice option will be made available by Sage to authors of primary research articles only upon acceptance of their paper for publication. This policy is in order to prevent any potential conflicts of interest, and to ensure that authors’ choice/funder requirements have no influence on the editorial peer review and decision-making process. Authors who do not wish to use this service are under no pressure to do so, and their article will be published free of charge, in the usual manner. All existing policies on author posting of the final version will then apply. Please visit for more information about the SAGE Choice program. The article processing fee for MDM’s SAGE Choice option is currently $1500.
